Hey folks, welcome to WTBL and another week of our episodes. Hope that everyone out there is doing fine and had a chance to check out our previous podcasts over the past couple of weeks. I thought we're kind of interesting both talking about Candace and ⁓

And then the Dunning-Kurger effect. dumb criminals. People so dumb they don't realize they're dumb. So hope that you guys all enjoyed that as well. It has been a pretty interesting week here. It has been crazy.

back-to-back ⁓ incidents. We had a huge windstorm and knocked down a tree, well knocked down numerous trees all around, but one in our daughter's yard. And you got to go over and cut that one up. Yeah. And then even here at our house, it ripped the roof off of one of our storage buildings or our lean to for the horses, And so it's been a busy week, you know, trying to do repairs and clean up.

Then today we woke up to about three four inches and now we got about six inches of snow out there, right? I thought that spring was almost here I know during the last couple of episodes we talked about the springtime weather and how much we were enjoying it and then here we are

back into winter. That means that we're shoveling sidewalks on our deck as well as clearing the driveway and then still trying to pick up all of the stuff left over from the windstorm. yeah we have a bunch of willow trees which I love but I don't love them when the wind blows because the branches just go everywhere and in the summertime it's not only the branches it's the leaves those things are like a dog they shed.

I love them, but my gosh, they're a lot of work the amount of raking that I've already done Now with the snow won't be able to get back to that for a little bit of time. Yeah, the Willow trees are just losing branches little branches everywhere Yeah, in the summer. We always end up blowing them blowing them off the deck or the patio Yeah, blow them off the patio and then try to chop them up with the lawnmower ⁓

again. Easy man's way of ⁓ cleaning up your yard I guess. Yeah. But anyway because of how busy it's been I think we're gonna try to do something a little

we wanted to talk about and I feel it is a crime a crime against what Washingtonians Yeah, the people who live in Washington State Does anyone realize that we have or I'm sure some of you do that live here But we have the highest gas tax a dollar forty seven per gallon extra on top of the regular gas prices. Yes and

I think California was right behind us a dollar 29 ⁓ per gallon of gas in just taxes, and they're trying to impose more. Washington Legislature voted in last session to steadily increase the amount of taxes Each year that will go upon your gasoline and so it'll automatically raise

We don't have any say over that either. the people that we've elected in supposedly to represent us obviously are not representing us. No. It's like lining pockets somewhere else. Well, not only is it set to steadily increase They're trying to pass one where they're gonna charge you per mile like if you drive per mile yeah who comes up with this stuff and thinks that this is okay

I'm just angry. They say that they want to do this per mile thing because so many people are gonna be driving electric vehicles and so they'll no longer recoup the taxes on the gasoline if you're gonna do that if I do drive a gasoline vehicle that I shouldn't have to pay per mile, right as well I'm gonna get double taxed here

they're just talking about it, but I wouldn't be surprised Washington and California and Oregon in my opinion have some of the worst laws on the

Washington has been pushing the electric vehicles so much so that they want to impose this tax on per mile. And then the cities are going along with it. So Spokane City is a prime example. They passed a local ordinance that none of the vehicles that they purchase could be fuel driven. They have to be electric. But the thing of it is, that so they bought a bunch of these, they don't work.

proven that they can't last a whole shift. It's not practical. They've run into all kinds of obstacles with these cars, but yet they won't let them purchase any more gas ones. the Spokane City Police Department had a big issue with that. They tried out a couple of the Teslas. so number one, they cost more. They aren't conducive to the roll cages and things that they have to put in there.

of the other electronics that have to be ⁓ run because now they have in-car computers, they have all of the stuff that drains the system besides that. And then because of how advanced those cars are, they're not just like any other off-the-line car where you can just start clipping wires and hooking extra electronics into it. Definitely, you know, they monitor throughout the entire

system how much electrical draw there is and so it's really difficult for them to outline those things for police vehicles. Yeah well and if you think about it

in California, in the summertime, they tell people you have to regulate how much you can run your electricity, like your air conditioner So by imposing this everyone's going to have to convert to electric cars, there is no way, if they can not handle

what you need for the electricity, then how are you going to add in a ton more cars that are gonna take that much more electricity? demand is going to be way more than what they can provide. Right, the power grid just isn't going to handle it or it's not set up for it at this point in time. at this point, if we didn't have such a nice place and our kids are close, I would totally wanna move. Right. But I don't wanna move away from my kids or my grandchild

I just get so angry about all of this. when you start looking at all of these laws, and then there's actually some others, not only just power related in terms of gas or electricity, they just recently passed a new law here for the state of Washington that's gonna undermine the vote of

people that are supposed to be representative having to do with the sheriffs. They have now imposed a law

that it's stated is it's supposed to improve the qualifications of the sheriffs, but. That just gives them more power. But did that actually go through or it went through? That already went through and so. my gosh. So they're allowed if for some reason the sheriff doesn't do what they want,

they can just remove him. basically, I think a lot of people see this as just, this is a second amendment power grab, which is that there are a number of sheriffs that are Republican. The legislature in this state is Democrat.

and they want to impose all kinds of gun control legislation as well as a number of other things, whether you're talking immigration and such. whether you agree with those issues or not.

If you live in a Republican community and you vote Republican and your sheriff ends up being Republican, then that is the will of the people in that area and that's the way that it should go. But now you're going to have a bunch of people over in Olympia that can say, well, we'll be able to remove that sheriff if we don't like what he's doing. I just don't know how this stuff gets in and I don't understand it.

your vote is set up that you are supposed to have elected representatives. No one should be able to just come in and take that elected representative out of office because they don't like the way that person. Well, I don't think that's anything we voted on. No, it was passed by the legislature. It did not go out to a vote of the public. welcome to wonderful Washington. I will say it's beautiful here. We have great neighbors.

I love everything except for the politics and the politics absolutely drive me crazy. Well, and the other thing that just passed is this millionaires tax, which now is going to open the door to imposing an all around income tax, which Washington state had written in its constitution that it would not allow a income tax. And it was one of the few appealing things about the state of Washington is that if you

You don't have to pay a state income tax. You already pay a pretty hefty sales tax Now they are circumventing that by introducing this millionaires tax and they say oh it'll only Affect those that make over a million dollars, but we all know how these things open the door Get your foot in the door and keep pushing expand it a little bit more and a little bit more But not only that you look at all of the small businesses that make over a million dollars so

So

if they fall into that category where they say, well, you made over a million dollars, so now you have to pay taxes on this amount. But if your costs are...

fairly close to that. You might be making over a million dollars, really just scrimping by on a pretty small profit margin. And they're going to erase that. Not only that, but you look at, some people like lawyers or physicians that make over a million dollars. Well, if I can go right across the state line, maybe I'm going to move my practice.

people are already doing that they're leaving the state altogether California is a perfect example of that right people are moving out going to Texas and Florida and other places and if our family wasn't so rooted and I don't know maybe it'll come to the point where All of us are gonna hit that point and the kids are ready. actually I think the kids would go right now It's just that they're all have jobs

jobs and homes in this area. there were some definite benefits. Back in the 80s, I came to state of Washington because I could make more money doing the law enforcement career than I could make in Montana by far. And there were more opportunities here, so I stayed here. But at this point in time, now I'm retired. if I could pull up roots and go back to Montana, I would do it in a heartbeat because I hate the politics.

here, the way that they're starting to tax things, the gasoline costs, the cost of everything here in Washington are going up and it's all due to people in Olympia because a lot of other places throughout the United States are not being affected the way that we are. when you think about having an extra dollar forty-seven on top of the already higher gas prices, they've come down a bit but

paying that much more. it's just ridiculous. Well, just a couple of months ago down at state line gasoline on the Idaho side of the line hit $2 and 18 cents per gallon when it was at its lowest and you would drive just three miles into Washington over to Liberty Lake and it was yeah almost $4 because it was just a little bit

It was like $3.89. I know recently we've been out and I've seen it over $4.00 a gallon. I know a lot of times they raise the prices in the summer because people are traveling. It's just a money grab. But this is not that time of year.

especially like diesel that the truckers obviously have to rely on is if you're an independent trucker I can see it almost putting you out of business or the amount that you're gonna have to charge in order to haul those loads which then of course trickles down to everything that you the consumer buys.

this isn't designed necessarily to be a political show but the fact is is that law enforcement and the laws do boil over this sheriff replacement law or what they're calling qualifications law

that's whole idea Is that you're supposed to be able to vote somebody into office and then pretty much the only way that you couldn't get them out of office they can be impeached if they actually break the law then they could be arrested most times they have to actually have a recall election or vote them out at the following election rather than this Removal by some arbitrary board

it doesn't compute to me. that's what our country was set up on is the right to vote I don't think that someone else would just come in and say ⁓ we don't like this guy he's out of here. it makes me sick in my stomach. Yeah the political climate in the US right now is pretty

with as crazy of a week as this has been, I think that we're gonna try to do something a little bit different because we didn't really prepare as much this week as normal. we've had our grandson for three days and the weather and Dallace's horse It's just been kind of crazy. one of the things I thought about is a lot of the crimes that you see hosted on podcasts or television.

You just can't get it all out there in a one hour or two hour

I've had people come back to me after watching the Dateline episode and say, are you sure you got the right person? And I was there's so much more that goes into that. it's impossible, even if you give out more information. there's so much stuff behind the scenes that you deal with and the people. And privacy information that can't be put out there on television or never gets brought up in court.

That actually goes into some of the decision-making But because of that I would usually recommend to people that if they see a podcast or they see a TV show that they're kind of wondering about they should probably go look at other Shows and podcasts check out as much information as you can to get the full rounded story so this week we're gonna

I'm not sure if it's been renewed for a season two. I know that there's a season one out there.

If you're if you're into a crime shows, I mean, it's it's a quick one so you can watch it, know, like 30 minutes and It's kind of interesting how they do it they can't put everything into them ⁓ We noticed that and we talked about that a little bit in kind of reviewing the Candy Montgomery ⁓ yeah, we watched two different two different shows and they each kind of portrayed things just a little bit

when I started looking into it, it happened so long ago that even two, three years ago, people were still doing podcasts about it. you see this lady and you kind of want to feel sorry for her you don't really know the whole story, but when you see it, it's like, ⁓ it's

have to keep an open mind about the fact

that if a jury of 12 convicted this person or acquitted that person, then perhaps they got to know more information than you did just out of the public eye. ⁓ It's sometimes difficult to agree with some of these verdicts. You just hope that the jury did get it right. But I can definitely say what you see in the media sometimes

a little bit biased one way or the other. It can skew your own opinion. Oh definitely, because when we watched the first one, which we kind of preferred, I think it was more the acting and the actors. But watching both of them, it kind of gave me a more fuller picture of

No one really knows exactly what happened in that room, but Candy. bizarre, and trying to look at it from all sides. she was killed,

Possibly doesn't matter that she kept on hitting her with an axe, it's pretty brutal. it's definitely very brutal. I've seen a couple of these situations over my career where someone has gotten off on self-defense or some other technical reason, and you think, my gosh, this is a complete miscarriage of justice.

I guess it really depends on who attacked who. There's a whole bunch of things there. And I know hers was technically, Temporary insanity, But they called it something

this would be a revisiting of two episodes that we've already talked about here on our podcast, but might give you a different impression when you get to see that in a fuller.
